Napoli Gets Back On Track

On Sunday afternoon in the Stadio San Paolo, Napoli didn’t seem hungover after their epic mid-week Champions League win over Liverpool, all part of the rollercoaster ride they have been on in the last week, starting with the Juventus embarrassment last Saturday. Napoli won the Match 2-0 against Sassuolo as they dominated from start to finish. A positive result before International break.

Ancelotti put a couple new names in the lineup, trying to give some players rest before the break. Despite some new players Ancelotti stuck to his 4-4-2, during attacking situations they look to attack in a 4-3-3.

In goal, we continue to get David Ospina. Again the Colombian put together a good performance. Saving 7 Shots, Earning another clean sheet.

The Backline saw Malcuit-Albiol-Koulibaly-Hysaj who played dominant as per usual, making Ospina’s job easy. Malcuit has been excellent in his playing time at fullback, while Hysaj had a solid performance notching an assist. Koulibaly and Albiol continue being the strong back wall for the defense, as Albiol wore the captain band.

In midfield, we got Zielinski-Diawara-Rog-Verdi these four played well. Verdi during attacking situations played up high, giving Napoli a 4-3-3 look, his creativity has earned him more playing time. Zielinski had a couple opportunities to get on the board, since his two-goal Milan game he hasn’t been able to get on the scoring sheet. In the 56th minute Ancelotti subbed in Allan for Diawara 13 minutes later we got Callejón for Verdi.

Up top we saw a new combo, Ancelotti started Mertens and for the first time this season Ounas got his first start. Great game by both especially Ounas in his first start, he didn’t waste time scoring, notching an incredible goal in the third minute. Insigne came on for Ounas in the 51st minute and nailed a beautiful curling goal from outside of the box.

Sassuolo always presents a tough opposition, they’re a possession first, tough defensive minded squad. Overall it’s a performance everyone should be content with. Napoli is in a good spot right now, sitting second in the standings with 18 points heading into our second International break, when we come back we will be traveling to our next match for Giornata 8, as we face Udinese.
