Chelsea’s midfielder, N’Golo Kante, has revealed that there was some contact with PSG in the summer.
The 27-year-old was an integral part of France’s World Cup winning squad and PSG was keen on acquiring his services. However, the French international had rejected any other offers to stay in London.
Speaking to RMC Sport, Kante said, ” There was interest from other clubs, but things were clear after speaking with Chelsea – the club is counting on me and I feel good.
“The next logical step was to continue with Chelsea. There was some contact with PSG, yes. However, after a discussion with Chelsea, I realised that the main thing for me was to feel good where I was then and am now.
“I am with Chelsea – staying with Chelsea is good for me.”
For a second consecutive season, PSG has failed to bring in a midfielder. This should come as no surprise as they are under FFP regulations.
Kante would have definitely boosted the Ligue 1 champions in their pursuit of the Champions League – a competition in which they have failed to go beyond the Quarter-Finals.
This statement from Kante should put to rest all other rumors; but in football, you just never know. Kante has started in all 5 games under Sarri this season and also scored against Huddersfield in the opening game.
Sarri has deployed Kante in a new role and has so far done him justice. Kante himself revealed that he has a new role under Sarri. He said, “It’s a new manager and a new system. I played a little bit further forward. I need to adapt to this role but I will give my best in this position for the team and I hope we can keep doing good things in the future.
“I try to find the striker, to be more offensive and cause problems for the opponent and I think it went well. But we have to keep working hard in training and I hope in the next game against Arsenal we can get a good result,” said the Chelsea midfielder while speaking to beIN Sports, after the game against Huddersfield.
The Premier League Player of the Season joined Chelsea on a five-year-deal after moving from Leicester for a fee of £32 and then helped them win the Premier League – which took the whole world by surprise.
There were also reports of Chelsea offering Kante a new 5-year-contract that would make him the club’s best-paid player.
This comes after PSG reportedly wanted to sign the midfielder. According to the Sun, the Blues were looking to offer him a new long-term contract worth a staggering £290k-week.
This news should come as a huge relief to Chelsea fans. Kante has made it clear that he is committed to the club and has no desire of moving anywhere. The next step – tie him down for eternity!
