Panama: Start of a New Era

The Panama National team began their new objective yesterday: Qatar 2022. Panama vs Venezuela. It was the first game after the World Cup and a lot of expectations were surrounding the players and fans. For the misfortune of the Panamanians, they lost 2-0.  After players like Baloy, Penedo, Gabriel Gomez, Blas Perez, and Luis Tejada announced their retirement we could see how much they were needed. Bolillo Gomez also left to be the new coach for Ecuador.

After the World Cup, Panama is going to look for a fresh start. It’s always hard to start from zero but in my opinion, they already started that process.

Players like Amir Murillo, Fidel Escobar, Anibal Godoy, Harold Cummings, Cristian Martinez and the not so new captain Roman Torres that play in the MLS. A league that is growing so fast but it’s definitely helping them develop and making them better.

Torres, Mejia, and Quintero experienced players who respectively play in Chile, Uruguay and Peru can inject the youngsters with what’s needed to take that extra step.

In the next few months changes will be happening in FEPAFUT. Elections are coming up for the new president. The name of the new coach will emerge.

Fans are asking for Dely Valdes, who is the current coach of Malaga Juvenil A in Spain. He and his brother were so close to taking the national team to their first World Cup but unfortunately, USA had other plans that night.

Multiple names are coming up every day but at the end of the day, nobody knows who will take command of the ‘canaleros’.

Dunga, Eduardo Lara, and Luis Fernando Suarez are names that with the days are coming up as options. The federation obviously wants the South American style to prevail and make them successful.

A fresh start and a beautiful new beginning for this team are ahead of them. Make the country proud again, make the Panamanians believe in you one more time.
