Manchester City's Christmas Slump

Manchester City has hit a Christmas slump, in which they have lost two games in a row. City fans have not been used to losing recently, but fans have been reminded. With City’s form this season the title race was extremely tight, however, with recent results, Liverpool has a 6 point cushion.

The first game they lost in the league this month was against Crystal Palace, a 3-2 loss. Then following up close behind was the 2-1 loss to Leicester City. Recent results cause for slight concern, as the team hits poor form near the turn of the new year. The two games are narrow losses, however, they have come against teams which Manchester City would be expecting to beat.

League rivals Liverpool have taken advantage of City’s recent results, they now have a six-point lead over second place Tottenham. Liverpool has been pushing City all year, and now are forcing City to chase them. Tottenham have also been capitalizing on their results, being one point above of Manchester City who sits in third.

Manchester City has one more game left this year, against 16th place Southampton. The Blues will be looking to pick up three points and get back on the right path. With tournament games coming up early next year, City needs to get back on form. The fans and board of the club are wanting results so pressure on Pep and the players will be slightly higher than usual in the new year.
