Tottenham played Arsenal in the Carabao cup quarter-final this evening, coming away with a 2-0 win. The game was played at the Emirates stadium, a difficult stadium to play at, with over 50,000 Arsenal fans present. Arsenal had been on an incredible run of form under new manager Unai Emery, however, Spurs prevailed.
The game revolved around Tottenham’s ability to finish chances, where Arsenal failed. The first half of football saw one goal, scored by Son Heung-Min. The goal came from a counter-attack, with a precise through ball from Alli, chased up and placed into the bottom left corner. Tottenham expanded upon their lead in the second half, with further incredible play from the man of the match Dele Alli. The second goal was scored in the 59th minute, this time finished by Alli. The goal was set up by Harry Kane, where he played a ball over the top of the Arsenal defense. Dele controlled the ball, then following it up with a chip over the top of Cech. This was the final goal of the game, giving Spurs the win and the chance to play in the semi-final.
Looking beyond Alli’s performance, it was not the only other reason his name was brought up in the game. After Alli’s second goal when near the sideline, he was struck with a bottle thrown by a fan. The game was an entertaining one, however, it brought a negative tone to the fixture. Despite this Tottenham will be thrilled with the result, where now they go on to play Chelsea. With two difficult games to come to advance to the final, Spurs will be optimistic as they beat Chelsea on November 24th, 3-1. The club will be hoping to come away with Mauricio Pochettinos first trophy whilst in charge.
