Who’s the New #7 of Real Madrid?

Mariano-Díaz-Real-Madrid

Real Madrid fans had to wait for a real substitute for the ‘number 9 position’, but this year things have changed.

Florentino Pérez waited till the end of the transfer market and obtain the services of the Spaniard/Dominican Mariano Díaz Mejía. A crazy transaction happened after Sevilla was after him, Real Madrid owned 35% of his rights they matched Sevilla’s offer and acquired his services.

Beginnings

Mariano started his soccer career in Espanyol. After that, he played for CE Premià, a small club from Catalonia. His professional day view was with CF Badalona where he played 3 games and after that, he signed for Real Madrid. In his second season, he scored 15 goals in 26 matches with Real Madrid C.

Because of that explosion, in season 2014-2015, Mariano was finally promoted to the Real Madrid Castilla. Between season 14-15/15-16 he scored 32 goals in 44 matches.

Senior Promotion

During season 16-17 he was promoted to the first team by former coach, Zinedine Zidane. He scored his first goal with the senior team against Cultural Leonesa in a game of the Copa del Rey.

Opportunities were lacking for Mariano but then an offer from Lyon came in for €8m and he departed to France. In France, Mariano showed his potential scoring goals left to right. He tabulated 18 goals in 37 matches.

He has everything you are looking for in a striker, speed, good in the air and the most important asset, definition. Some of his fans mention his similarity with the Brazilian Ronaldo and call him Mariano ‘Nazario’.

Mariano will now wear #7, after players like Raúl, Butragueño, Juanito and recently Cristiano Ronaldo.

There is a long season ahead full of Soccer (La Liga, Champions League, and Copa del Rey) and I’m sure his time will come and show his full potential.
